Which side do the numbers stamped on the rods go on a series 80 engine. Do they go toward the cam or does it matter? The engine came to the local machine shop disassembled and they want to put it back together correctly and having never worked on a series 80 I just want to be sure.

This is a Greg Long question. I am sure he will answer when he checks in.

The connecting rods for a Series 80 or 81 engine may be installed either way. Originally, they were installed with the numbered side toward the camshaft side of the engine.

Paul is right on the mark, as usual. The connecting rods are symmetrical, there is no incorrect way to install them. The original pistons have a significant offset of the wrist pin, so they must be installed correctly.

Billy: your machine shop called me about the head studs. He is not answering the phone today, Sunday. The part number for the studs is Dorman Part # DOR 675-012.

Thank you, I have passed the information about the rods on to the shop.

Greg, Thank you I will call them this morning and give them the numbers.
