I have what looks to be an 80 or 81 series radiator, but can’t determine which exactly. I took it to Ernie Follis and we compared it to his brother’s 80 touring that is in restoration, but the swivel radiator outlet is throwing us for a loop. Thanks.

Sean,
Guess on my part, but I have seen something like that soldered onto other radiators so that they could be used on a stationary engine setup. The wood strip on the bottom of the radiator might be another clue along these lines.

Here is a photo of a ’25 Series 80 radiator shell. The two are very close but not the same..
The Radiator in question has a steeper slope to the top of the shell and tank, and the ‘cut corners’ are longer.
The bottom of the radiator shell is squared off on the unknown-year radiator.
A series 80 radiator upper tank water inlet is not bolted on, only sweat-soldered.
I think it is from a late teens or early 20’s car, it has that look.
Based on your photo-bucket pictures, my vote is for a ’27 Series 36.
The Series 81’s have a completely different shape. That is easy to rule out.
The shell is made for a hood with a center hinge-pin. With the exception of the Series 33 Runabout, the cars prior to the Series 36 had a five-panel hood….there is no center hinge pin.
You can see the date code on the radiator core of 1926…reasonable for a car delivered in ’27.
There are no holes in the the face to mount the radiator badge used on the ’28 cars.
The water connection at the bottom is the same as on my Series 33 cars. I assume the Series 36 radiators are the same (?).
From the pictures, it looks like some genius chrome-plated over the German silver!

Sean,
My 1928 Series 36 looks similar to the one you have including the swivel outlet at the bottom. The shell also looks similar although being a 28 mine has the badge on the front. My radiator is a Fedders, it appears yours is a Harrison. I’ll try to attach a couple of pictures.
The Shell.
Thanks everyone. I’ve got it at a shop for leak check and minor repairs. Yes the shell has been chrome plated, but this seems to happened to a lot of them. I know the plating can be removed.
