The Great Lakes Region held their Spring Fling this year at Greg Long’s Farm in Holly Michigan.
We had in attendance members from as far away as LaVeta Colorado, and of course from Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. A list of attendees will follow.
We started the weekend on Friday night with a cocktail party at the home of Greg and Ken, Ken being the Chef, Greg the mechanic. So Ken’s skills and expertise were ‘on stage’ for the party.
We were treated to SEVEN amazing appetizers [not counting the three cheese and cracker options] The appetizers were the meal for the event, and afterwards, we had no less than EIGHT desert options.
It was an amazing spread of creative culinary art.
On Saturday morning we assembled at the farm for a short 3-4 mile drive to the local County Park to attend a Car Show/Swap Meet and Antiques Flea Market, We all found something to purchase and it was quite entertaining.
At noon we departed on a 35 mile tour [with one surprise road-construction detour] to visit the Meurer Car Collection in Farmington Hills. This collection of roughly 100 cars and a Pierce Travelodge. There was a ‘Loft’ of antiques that included decorative items to antique machinery and tools.
We returned to the road for a 38 mile tour to our dinner restaurant: Via! Bologna! in neighboring Clarkston. This Italian restaurant is a family chain in SE Michigan. After yet another culinary delight, we headed back to the farm. .
Our route home took us past many late 1800’s residences in Clarkston, and past the Mill Pond, the headwaters for the Rouge River flowing south the Detroit River. It provided Henry Ford the waterway for shipping in the raw materials for his huge Rouge River Plant.
Saturday evening we enjoyed many of the deserts from Friday’s party, and added a few more for variety.
Great folks great conversation, and a car or two to look over..
Sunday morning our resident Chef again created a great breakfast for us. Family recipe freshly mixed Buttermilk Pancakes, local real Maple syrup, and several versions of eggs, and breakfast pastries of course. WHEW !!
The weather was PERFECT. Mid 70’s both days and sunny. We are crediting ever popular LOKI our resident German Shepard with the perfect weather.
The Spring Fling was a great success, and we hope to repeat it again next year.
Greg, Ken and LOKI.
This is just part of the Muerer Collection:
Another at the end of a wonderful Saturday.
Note LOKI keeping an eye on the ’25 Pierce Arrow Touring car.
The Spring Fling had fun folks, cars, perfect weather and exemplary cooking by the hosts.
Thanks to Greg and Kenny for a wonderful time!

A great tour, cool cars, fantastic people and wonderful hosts.
What more could you ask for?
Oh yea. Perfect weather!
Thanks Greg and Ken!
EVERYTHING was perfect…except that so many of our members once again failed to participate. As always it was their loss! They’ll just have to read about what they missed in the next Great Lakes Archer.
Thanks Greg, Ken & Loki, hosts extraordinaire!
