Hello,
We are new to owning Pierce Arrows. We have a 1930 Series A sedan. Did Pierce offer a correct exhaust pipe deflector or did owners just go to the generic auto parts stores and buy a universal one?? If Pierce did offer a correct one who might now have one for sale? Thanks for such a great website & members. John Fuller Custer, WA
Hello,
I wanted to clarify by deflector I mean the stainless or chrome piece that clamos on the very back end of the exhaust pipe to deflect the exhaust away from the car. If anyone has any pics of the exact Pierce style I would greatly appreciate you posting a pic. Thanks very much.
I have seen a ‘fish-mouth’ shaped exhaust tip, and a similar one with a down-turn on the top of the ‘fish-mouth’ that deflects the exhaust down toward the ground.
I DO NOT know if that style of exhaust tip is correct, if it was factory or dealer issued, or if it was an aftermarket item.
I think it’ve seen a similar style tip in some factory sales literature, I’ll look when I can find time, and if found, post a scan of the image.
Hope this helps.

Both packard and Cadillac offered them when new in the era. Installing one would and should be fine, just don’t use a modern style tip. I have one on my 1936 Pierce.
Thanks Greg and Ed
There are several deflectors on eBay. You can even get this one and have a Packard eat your exhaust, kind of.
The Complete Automobilst, in England has some. They also have the temp gauge fluid along with some other good stuff.
I tried to copy the link, but I couldn’t copy-paste it . Just google them
While on Martha’s Vineyard last month I was hit in the rear and my exhaust deflector was bent like a wet noodle. Not much other damage.
Ed, you can’t just drop that little tidbit without supplying some details.
Start a new thread if need be but inquiring minds want to know what happened.
Is this what you’re looking for? It came on my ’31 when I bought it. It does not actually spread anything. The actual exhaust deflects down before getting to the fan part. This pic is from the day that I went to look at the car in 2001.
