Hi everyone,
The mechanic is finishing the instalation of the wireing harness and came to a stall.
The wire ring harness fits in the car well. It ends at a large flared pigtail coupling of sorts. Does that coupling plug into the engine somewhere or are we missing a matching coupling that attaches to the dash? Or?
A picture would help. There’s a large “coupling” that goes to the bottom of the steering column, but other than that I’m not aware of a large coupling going to the dash…..

Here is the coupling. The second picture shows the harness to the alt and then branches off to the right to that coupling shown above.

The steering column is not in the car yet. This is probably why the mechanic was stumped. lolol

Please take the coupling out of the bag and post photos of it without the plastic bag around it.
That might be the light switch assembly that mounts on the very far lower front end of the steering column/gearbox.
Sounds like the car is getting put back together.

Through the plastic it sure looks like the fitting for the bottom end of the steering column….and in the picture with it hanging off the side of the frame, it seems to be in the right location for that….

Thanks so much. The steering collum was pulled out today and all the pieces were put together to make sure it fits.
Is there a piece that attaches to the coupling? Or does it attach directly the collum with the round piece with the notch in it? Its hard to describe.
Does anyone have a phtos of they harness attached to the steering collum?

Believe it or not, the outer manifold is 100% original. Even the shiny porcelain finish is great and looks awesome. Rick
If I am not mistaken, the valve cover is on upside down and backwards…….the one with the breather tube. I think it goes towards the back of the engine. Do you have the flame arrestor?

Hi Richard, If the part in the semi-opaque plastic bag is the coupling that I think it might be, Then it is pushed against the other half of the light switch, and given about a 3/8″ twist to lock the two halves together. The part on the steering box has the contact arm on the end of the steering column inner rod that ends at the steering wheel light-lever.
The part on the wiring harness has an outer case that as mentioned above, twist-locks onto it’s mating half to complete the switch assembly.
Inside the wiring harness connector is a round bakelite disc with slots around it’s perimeter where the various lighting wires are slid into. Each wire has a sleeve with a button-head on it’s end. The wire slides into it’s slot, the end of the slot is a slightly larger round hole, The sleeve on the wire fits into the hole, and is pushed down until the button stops it.
The contact arm in the other half is rotated such that it makes contact between the various buttons on the wires.
So, your steering column should still have a round part that will mate with the wire-harness connector, and have the contact arm to make the electrical connections for controlling the lights on your car.
I’ll see if my cell-phone camera can take a usable photo of the light switch on my ’29 roadster. If so, I will post it in a later message.
