Can someone confirm, for sure, the direction of rotation for the Delco dual distributor drive on the left front of the Pierce-Arrow engine. I believe that it is clockwise, but I just want to be sure. Some “T” head designed engines have an idler gear that runs on top of the crankshaft drive gear, then to the camshafts and finally to the magneto and water pump drive gears. With the extra idler gear mentioned, that changes the final drive direction to counter clockwise in rotation. I do not believe that the Pierce-Arrow engine is designed with the above mentioned idler gear. If you have experience with the Delco dual distributor and Pierce-Arrow, please share a confirmation of final drive rotational direction.

Hi Alan, what year car are you working on? Your list of cars in the roster includes only a 1935, and a 1937. Please update your car list in the roster, or post here what year and model engine you need info for. I’ll be glad to try to help.

Hi Alan, I looked in the parts manual for my 1919 Series 31, 38hp Dual Valve engine.
There definitely is an idler gear that drives the water pump and the Dual Delco on the exhaust side
So, from the front, the crankshaft turns clockwise, the cam is geared to the crank, so the cam turns counterclockwise, and the idler gear for the water pump/distributor is then turning clockwise.
