As an interesting side note to my inquiry on thin wall vacuum tubing, a member asked me what the correct mounting of open car wiper motors would be, specifically 1931.

I searched on line, and almost every recent image of open Pierce cars have the wiper mounted with the flat side up, rounded side down.

My phaeton has the flat side down, rounded side up. In fact, I’m convinced this is the correct orientation. Attached is a period photo of a brand new 1931 in front of a dealer, and very clearly, the rounded portion of the wipers are facing up.

OK, everyone rush out to your garages and check you cars. A screwdriver, and possibly switching sides (to make vacuum attachment correct), are all you need to make it right!
