On a 1936 Pierce Arrow (1601) how does one adjust the steering wheel and colunm to make more room between the wheel and the seat??
There were several different dash set ups, so it’s not straight forward. Post a photo of the dash and where the column goes through it. As long as it’s not the very early style, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
Jerry,
There is a bracket (chrome) that is attached behind the dash. This “bracket” drops down, and around the steering wheel post. It has, I believe, a 1/2″ bolt and nut. Loosen this, apply a few drops of oil around it. Then, behind the dash, and a little bit up (same bracket) you’ll see two nuts and bolts coming out of the stationary mount. Loosen both of these nuts as much as possibe-without them coming off. The back side of the bracket is serrated, as is the stationary mount (like a saw blade). Separate these two. a little, you might have to wiggle the steering post. Hopefully, the oil has lubed that section surrounding the post and will slide some. You may have to go under the hood and loosen a bolt to allow the post to swivel, and either drop down or pushed up? Once the steering wheel is where you’d like it, tighten all the nuts/bolts. Be sure the serrations are engaged!
I haven’t done one in a while; so, if you have a problem, give me a call. (716) 826-2416.
