Other than a long walk from my spot in the Green field to the PA tent, I didn’t go looking for much this Hershey, but did sell quite a bit at my space.

Something found me, though. One of my neighbors on the field mentioned his friend had a Pierce stone guard.

I believe the fellow (with guard tied to a small wagon) went by Pierce tent, asking $400 I hear, and lots of opinions on what it fit.

All of a sudden there he walks, to the spot a few away from me. He’s now at $200, still doesn’t know what it fits, and in a (French?) accent says he can’t take it on the plane with him.

I offer $100, he thinks for a minute, then agrees.

Perfect fit on my ’31 Model 43….not sure I like the look, but a good wall hanger if nothing else!!

    David,

    Quite slick!

What a find, and it fits your car, WOW!

The only problem is that you told everyone what you paid.

Now, you can’t make $400 profit on a PAS Emporium sale if you decide that you don’t like the way it looks.

    HA!

    David,

You got a Great Buy and it Looks Great.

I am sure it will grow on you.

Stories like this are what make Hershey so much fun-Bravo David!

    #405223

    That was a steal.

Even if you ultimately don’t like the look you scored a great deal.

    David,

I like the look, besides, how often do you see a Pierce with a stone guard on it?…

    #405225

I might try it for a while, will need to fabricate some brackets to support from crossbar, with rubber bumpers against shell….I don’t want to drill any holes….

As far as telling the price, doesn’t matter, if I go first, my wife will have the “big sale”” and it can go for fair value!”

Stoneguards seem to show up on ’31s more frequently. Here’s the one that came with my Model 42. The mesh material is quite similar to what Dave got.

OOPS! I posted the wrong photo. On that one the guard had been removed.

    Try this one.

I had another, repro, stone guard a while back, but it had very heavy mesh.

This one has the finer mesh as Bill’s picture shows, and actually looks better.

The heavy mesh one made the car look like a replica…

There were several suppliers for these stoneguards and the mesh would differ. The ones I have seen for 1929-1931 Pierce Arrows require drilling the shell to mount a knob on which the guard hangs then it is secured on the sides. This makes one question mounting one on a car which never had a stoneguard.

I would never drill holes in the original radiator shell.

This stone guard has two rubber bumpers at the top, and two unusual spring leafs that come up from the bottom.

    Interesting discussion, though…thanks!

If it is like the ones I have seen, the notch for the knob is on the back of the stone guard near the top.I would not drill an original shell either.
