Hi members, I have own this beautiful 1931 model 43 coupe now for over a year now and would love to know if any members could shed some light on any earlier history, or information on how to track it’s history.

What I do Know about the car, I can track the history to about 1981 where it was said to be bought by Tom Crook. He told me he found it in Kirkland Wa but can’t remember the name of the previous owner. That time he remarked it had a extremely low mileage of around 17,000 miles which he believed was correct. It was later bought by Bud Melby of Ravensdale Wa. Bud bought the car to be used in the 1983 Great american race, his son told me he drove the car 4800 miles in that race. Bud kept the car in his personal museum there after. Fast forward to April 2016 were I bought it at auction in Spanaway Wa.

The Car, I believe the car is still largely original with original upholstery. It looks to have one repaint a very long time ago but I don’t believe it has every been apart. The cars milage today stands at 25,600. It still runs and drives as new.

Any information would be greatly appreciated as I would love to know more of this car. Thank you for your time.

    Hello Mike,

Your ’31 Coupe looks great! It sure is nice to hear that it is mostly original, and that you do have some history back some 37 years.

You might see if Tom Crook kept any paperwork from his transactions with your car? Maybe he kept a few bits of info, ? Even the town that the car was located in in 1981 could be helpful.

If you find the town, take the car for a drive there occasionally, if it is not too far away. Show the car around, and maybe someone will tell you: I remember ‘Mr. Xxxx’ had a car like that . You never know who might remember what.

Some states do have auto registration records, but often they get lost due to accident, like a fire or flood where records were stored. Or when the time came to created a digital data base, there was a cut-off date set to limit how far back records would be transcribed into digital form..

Take Tom Crook out to lunch and see if you can get a few more clues from him, ?

I hope you plan on coming to the 2018 Annual meet this summer in Rohnert Park California. This Annual meet will be on July 8th-July 13th. It would be great to see you and your car there !!

    Greg Long.
