How does one know if a radiator cap is original? Also are the bow and arrow available?
Bow and arrow are available from Dave Murray – in the roster.
Loyd,
What do you mean about if a radiator cap being original?
Do you mean how does one know if it is a reproduction?
Please explain.
Peter
Hello Lloyd,
An original cap will vary greatly from vehicle to vehicle. And from model year to year.
What year car do you have ? What body style is it?
Generally, if the cap mounting hardware on it’s underside looks new, it most likely is new, a reproduction.
However, there are many reproduced parts for old original caps that can be used to make an old cap functional, or at least function better.

I am looking for an original radiator cap for my Series 80. Does anyone have an extra one that they would sell me? If so please let me know.
Thank you,
Ken
A radiator cap is just a cap. The Series 80’s had a brass threaded ‘cup’ with Bakelite cast over and around the cap.
The Bakelite shrank, cracked and very, very few original caps remain intact.
The Mascot was mounted on a plated brass cap, held on by a central stud in the mascot’s base, and a nut and lock washer under the cap, inside the radiator neck.

I am looking for a plane cap for a Series 80 that I can add my Motometer. If anyone has one that they can sell please email me or let me know here.
Thanks,
Ken
Ken,
BTW, contact Paul Jacobs, as he was selling reproductions of that cap for something in the range of $100.00.
Those you can drill for a Moto Meter without ruining a piece of history (original bakelite cap) that you will never again find.
