    HI,

Does anyone have a uu2 carburetor for sale for my 29 DC phaeton that is in good shape that is not cracked? I don’t mind if it needs to be rebuilt, just needs to be completely solid.

    Thanks, Rick

Not looking to spend $3000 like some are offered. Any help?

The only one I know of with good cores right now is John Cislak.

You could score the swap meets or classified ads in places like Hemmings but I think John has some on the shelf.

UUS carbs in decent shape are getting real hard to come across these days.

    Not score – scour

The problem with UU2 carbs are there are five different castings and they fit more than 80 cars……so even if you find one, it probably won’t be right for a Pierce. Then you still have large and small choke horns, one or two choke shafts, different jets, idle air screws, etc, etc, etc. Same applies to UUR2 except they fit 185 different applications. Carbs are getting very difficult to find. Most on eBay are junk….they look good, cost 800 to 1500, are incorrect, and when you get them apart they are no good. They also rot from the inside out, so just because the bowl isn’t cracked, that doesn’t mean its good. As for price……don’t complain……..I just did a carb that the purchase and overhaul makes 3 grand look like Childs play…..rare stuff is getting almost impossible to find.

My car came with two carburetors. The first was probably the correct one but when the car was eventually started it showed its cracks and leaked a lot.

The second carburetor appears to be the same except the opening for the exhaust is a bit larger than the first carb and the air filter etc.. does not fit. The car will not start with this carb. Not sure if its adjustments or its just plain the wrong carb.

The air horns are interchangeable so your air cleaner will fit if you swap the air horns.

The 2nd carb could have bad venturies, they go bad due to age, or it may have the wrong jets.

Send them both to a reputable carb shop and see if they can get you one in good working order.

John Cislak is a good place to start.

Further to Ed’s comments about the scarcity of UU2 bowls, has anyone looked into 3D metal digital printing? If you have a complete carb with a cracked bowl, a digital metal copy could be made, machined and the internal parts swapped into the new casting. Here’s a link to an interesting video showing current capabilities of 3D metal printing technology.

The UU2 bowl has internal passages so it’s not just a bowl to hold the fuel.

3D printing metal parts would be great and I really look forward to when we can affordable do it at home.

It would be awesome for the PAS to have a library of files available for members to download and print parts in their own garage.

There are now small 3D printing shops who take in counter work. A recent episode of Wheeler Dealers on the Velocity channel needed a car part not available anywhere. A quick trip to a 3D printer business (in L.A.), layout on CADCAM and “how many of these (parts) do you want?” As time progresses, 3D printing cost should come down with improved technology plus competition among 3D printer businesses.

You can make a new UU2 in bronze by casting…….it has been done (similar carb) the casting will cost about 9k per carb.

Richard, running an incorrect carb can ruin your engine, as a few people posting here. They are NOT at all similar. You can melt a piston or burn some valves, and possibly crack the block.

    As-ask
