I purchased B F Goodrich Silvertown 7.50-17 (6-ply rated) 4-ply tires for my 1703, only to discover that they will not fit into the sidemount covers. These tires are 34″ in dia. I have measured an unmounted Denman 7.50-17 6-ply at 32″ in dia that does appear to fit nicely, but I do not know the inflated “thickness”. Unmounted Denman and Lester 7.00-17s measure 31″ in dia. What is the best fit for the covers? I plan to run the larger dia Goodrich tires on the car and carry a spare in the trailer, but need to fill the sidemounts.

    Bob,

Try FIRESTONE! I was amazed at the difference in sizes, for tires, that are out there. I put Firestones on my coupe and they even fit under the smaller sidemount covers. What I understand is, this brand is more “true-to-size”” to what was first put on our cars–way back when.
