This week’s edition of David Greenlees on-line magazine “The Old Motor” leads with an article and photos of a 1910 66 Pierce Arrow Touring Landau. Here’s a link: http://theoldmotor.com/?p=153744
The cost in 1910 was $8,250, which in today’s $$$ would be $200K. A fine but very exclusive automobile!
In 1910, $8,250 would have bought a new 8,250 square foot house.
Hi Tony, According to “Pierce Arrow First Among America’s Finest”, a Ballantine book ( this book got me interested in Antique cars, I bought it at the PX when I was in the army in 1971 and have been hooked ever since), the 66 Pierce noted was one of three built. One was George Birge’s, president of Pierce, his personal car (George followed George N Pierce as pres as I am sure you know) one was owned by a cereal tycoon and the other traveled the Gobi Desert. I also have a 1910 C.P. Kimble & Co. custom body builders catalog showing a very similar body mounted on a chain drive chassis, it is called a “French Diligence Traveling Coach” and it was shown at the 1908 New York, Chicago and St. Louis auto shows, price on request. Thanks
Should any of you wish more information on this particular model,
I have a multi page original literature piece from the PA factory that
covers only this vehicle. Many interior and exterior photos. Happy to
copy or loan out.
