Hi AGAIN Maybe 3rd time lucky with uploading this file now that I have resized it. Jak.
Jack, that is fantastic. I never knew such a special sales list was available. The teletype codes (“olive”, for instance) explain why these were used as referred to in the Parts Catalogue.
G’day Bill, Telegraphic Codes were used for every part when ordering.ie you sent the word “Olive””— it translated at The Pierce office as the item in the catalogue. In this case Radiator shutters. back then telegraph/ telegrams were charged by the word & the size of the word. VERY expensive if you had to spell out the whole item & have a bit of idle chatter at the same time–Like “”Have a nice day””. You only paid for one word (Olive) instead of 10 or 12 words. It was THE SYSTEM all over the world at the time. That was how business was conducted back then. Remember the message had to travel along 10s of thousands of miles copper wires strung across continents & sunk across deep oceans. Makes the cost of a telecommunications satellite relative cheap & now we fill their capacity with 99% idle chatter!!! Sort of like my answer!!!
Cheers
