    OOPS,

    Both vanities are there!

Very nice, even if for a Cad.

    Randy,

Here is a photo of my left vanity. It measured approx. 6 3/4″ wide x 2 3/4″” deep x 4″” high at the back.

    I hope this helps.

Another of the top of right side sans the lighter etc.

    #403353

Last one of the back of the right side. I assume the hole is for the cigar lighter wiring to pass through.

Good hunting or perhaps someone has the ability to recreate.

On the vanities I have for my car, the wiring for the cigar lighter uses the mounting clips as the electrical connections.

    Series 80 / 81 Gents,

Keep in mind that Pierce-Arrow used Waltham 8-day clocks in the dash having black faces and white numbers.

I assume, that if there was a clock installed in the rear as an option, it too would have a black face with white numbers.

Also, the numbers on the correct clocks are NOT Sans-Serif / straight, as in, they have a bit of Art Deco swirl to them.

    Photo later.

Peter, Miss Helen has her original vanity, and clock, I’ve looked closely at it, and it has no indication that it has ever been out of the car, or the clock removed.

And it has a white face.

I also have two other clocks in or from a vanity, and they are white faced..

I can see that it seems logical that the clock in the speedometer would be matched if a clock was added in the back, yet that does not seem to be the case with our Pierce Arrows.

A Mahogany or dark leather vanity would look rather ‘severe’ or ‘intense’ with a black faced clock, where a light or white face makes the vanity look more pleasing..

It would be interesting to have a lot of photos of presumed original vanities with clocks to compare.

    Peter,

I noticed the set on eBay with the clock says Fleetwood on the Face.

I believe that is the reason why he thinks it belongs to a Cadillac. A V16

would demand more money of course.

I would be a buyer if someone desides to remanufacture a pair.

Personaly it would cost to much to restore the ones on eBay.

As discussed, here is the clock. I can be reached through the roster

Hi Larry, do you know what year Pierce that vanity came from?

Could you post an image of the back and the bottom of the vanity please?

It appears to be made of metal, with applied or painted detailing, is this correct?

    Thanks,

Greg, i have the same vanity with this clock in my 1928 series 36 seven pass. sedan…Ed.

    Greg,

Was Miss Helen bodied by the PAMCC?

If so, perhaps, the PAMCC put white faced clocks in the rear clock vanities of SPECIAL cars.

Or perhaps, Miss Hellen requested same when she Special Ordered her VERY SPECIAL and UNIQUE Pierce-Arrow Series 80.

That started, the standard Series 80 vanities do not come with clocks, just a smoker vanity and a Ladies’ writing / mirror vanity.

As to other models (36) or later year models of P-A cars, I DK.

Remember that the Series 80 was the more modestly priced P-A.

How many standard Series 80 Coach or DeLuxe cars have original vanities with clocks?

    I bet none.

My 1925, 7-pasenger DeLuxe sedan is as DeLuxe as they came out of the PAMCC factory, as detailed by its storied history (family lore) of being owned by Myron Forbes (then president of the PAMCC) and its numerous factory added features.

As to the harshness of combining mahogany and a black clock face, one may dispute a man’s intelligence, but there is no disputing a man’s taste.

Miss Helen has a custom body by Derham. I’m sure that I’ve never seen a black faced clock in a vanity. But of course, I have not looked at all that many back seat vanities.

If you play with photoshop and put a black faced clock in a mahogany vanity, you will see what I’m getting at..

I believe the vanities in S33 and s36 enclosed and custom bodied cars had a clock. but, there are few photos published to support that belief..

    Greg,

So, because she was bodied by Derham, Miss Helen did not have standard PAMCC interior fittings and finish, eh?

I don’t doubt your assertion about the Series 33 and Series 36 vanities and clocks, but this message Board thread started discussing Series 80, Coach interiors.

The Series 33 and Series 36 were at least three times the cost of a Series 80 two door Coach.

The PAMCC options were endless and the more you paid, the more elegant was the motorcar you received.

Also, the enclosed cars got all of the fine details, because they were the Formal Cars and not the Runabout and Touring cars which were designed for running about and for touring (no windows and exposed to the elements).

The interior of a beautifully restored, or beautifully kept original Pierce-Arrow Sedan, regardless of the Series, is simply sublime. It is like having a sumptuous dinner in a fine restaurant, finished with a warmed snifter of VSOP and a great cigar.

For sheer elegance and comfort, I will take a Sedan all day long and into the night, but as I indicated above, there its no accounting for taste. HA!

    What is your point Peter?

IS there a point in your last two messages?

I never said that a Series 80 Pierce Arrow had a vanity with a clock, I DID say that Custom Bodied cars might have

a very special vanity. and attached a photo of Miss Helen’s interior and vanity with a with a white-faced clock..

You then pointed out that a S80 has a black face clock in it’s speedo and that if a special vanity for a S80 could be purchased that it would have a black faced clock,

I pointed out that there apparently are no black faced clocks in any vanities. At least I have never seen one or a photo of one.

Then you pointed out the price of a S33 and S36, to I assume explain why a Series 80 would not have a clock in it’s vanity.

I agree, and never stated otherwise.

You then waxed on about the ‘elegance’ of the enclosed cars, and stating that the Deluxe enclosed cars were the formal cars and somehow you got onto writing about a snifter of VSOP, and a stinky cigar.

And implied that somehow a runabout or touring car is somehow a lesser Pierce Arrow.

I’m not sure where you were going with your next to last message, but no new ground was covered, and no new info supplied, and the thread drift from Randy’s original question is significant.

And of course your use of Latin is cute. in your last message. I’m sure we all will use Google translator to look up the translation

Perhaps after dinner you had an additional snifter of VSOP, or two ?

Or perhaps the cigar smoke has become so thick, it has lowered the oxygen concentration in your blood stream?

    We may never know.

    Now boys, play nice!

I have never seen a vanity clock in any Series 80 with a Pierce factory body, so the discussion of clock face colors is MOOT. Let’s MUTE it…

    #403372

    Gents,

Here is a photo of the correct Series 80 clock.

Note the numeral font, with serif versus sans serif (both are being sold on eBay).

Also note the length of the stem, as some are shorter.

The stem unscrews and a long stem can be substituted for the shorter stem.

The face of this clock is a bit worn, but it is a spare.

    Peter
