Hello, This is my very first posting, i just joined the club a couple days ago. I joined because I have a 1928 Fleet Arrow Wagon that has been in the family for over 50 years. I have 2 children finishing up school and have always told myself I need to wait for the kids to get older before i start to restore it. It is mostly complete and in decent shape except for the mostly wooden cab and steering wheel. I have several pieces of the steering wheel and am in the process of contacting steering wheel bob, who i found on the internet. I am currently looking for any information regarding the series 81 and or the vehicle in general. It appears there were just over 500 built between 1928 and 1929 before going out of production and it has been very hard to find much information on Pierce Trucks. I am excited to be here and hope to get the information i need to restore my Fleet Arrow Wagon so any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have attached a photo, note I have started to restore the bed of the truck. I am not sure if it was original but I did copy what has been on it since my family owned it and hauled scrap with it.

Nice truck! You do have a very nice and worthy Pierce-Arrow project. You even have most of the wood for patterns from which to rebuild the cab structure. Is the mechanics close to runable? Do you have the actual door skins? Please post pictures of your progress so we can all enjoy.

The head appears to be a 1927, see photo, but the year 1928 is stamped on the bottom of the oil pan. Looking at the identification numbers in the photos, is anyone able to give me any information for them or does anyone know how I can research? I will send a pic of the number on the bottom of the oil pan later today, I don’t have any at the moment.

    Alan,

It hasn’t been ran in over 40 years but did run when parked. It is in really good shape, pistons look great and no sticky valves. It did have some mice get into the exhaust so I pulled the manifold off, brass nuts came off surprisingly easy, and it had a lot of mice debris so I am going to take it apart and rebuild it from the crank up. I had removed the door on the passenger side of the photo I posted. I do have both doors and they are in really good shape to use a patterns. Here is a photo of the drivers side door, which still works and a couple other photos. I have my work cut out for me.

Thanks for pictures, I have a Fleet Wagon emblem in my memorabilia collection, but don’t think I’ve ever seen one….nice and a worthwhile project, can’t be many left!!

    Charles,

Great looking project. These guys have been great and answered a lot of questions and volunteered to help me get my 1925 Pierce Arrow on the road.

I look forward to more pictures as yours progresses.

    Looks like a great project.

Not many Pierce trucks out there so it is nice to see one on its way back to being on the road.

    All,

I wanted to give an update on my Truck since its been a while so I will send a few pictures hoping you’ll enjoy them as much as I like seeing updates on others. I ended up sandblasting and painting the frame on November 14th.

Since then I have been slowly picking away at small parts and working on the engine. I had to have the water jacket bolts drilled out by a machine shop since the majority had been broken off and I was not having much luck removing them myself.

The cylinder block is currently in the machine shop getting the valve seats ground. I should see it back within a couple weeks, they were really busy when I brought it in. Before I brought it in the shop I noticed the serial number on the corner of the cylinder block and I was happy to see it matched the block.

Once the Cylinder Block is back I will finally be able to put the motor back together.

Meanwhile I have been blasting and painting some parts and reassembling them.

I put the Houdaille Shocks back on yesterday.

As you can see I didn’t try to repair the small pits in the frame or base of the shock, I kept everything original and just sandblasted and painted. I am not sure how that rates in the restoration world but thought it gives it some character.
