My name is Mike McCandless, one of the owners of Richmond Auctions. We’re auctioning the collection of Tony Townley Oct 24-25th in Bogart, GA. The collection consist of over 100 cars, ranging over a 100+ year span. There are two Pierce Arrows in the collection. The one mentioned in the title as well as: 1931 Pierce-Arrow Model 43 1025208

These cars were purchased 15 years ago and I want to verify information that came with the car. At the time it was old in 2010, the Model 41 was reported to be 1 of 5 known to exist. Three were in the USA, 1 in India and 1 in Norway. This is the former Rockefeller car. Can anyone verify if these numbers are still accurate?

I have very little information on the Model 43. It was auctioned out of a private collection and there are almost no records we have from that ownership.

Any information would be helpful, I just want to be accurate in our descriptions of the car!

    Mike,

Below is what PAS records have on the cars. We do not have the current owner for either car. Any recent owner information you could provide us would be appreciated. You can e-mail me at [email protected]

Our records show 6 Model 41 & ps. Tourings exist with one in Norway and one in Thailand.  Eight of the Model 43 exist. We have no information on the number built.

I think that touring car was in Rockefeller’s museum at Petit Jean Mountain in Arkansas. As I recall it was tan and brown. I could be mistaken, but, if it was, it’s the first Pierce-Arrow I ever saw in person.

Looks like both cars were auctioned at Sotheby’s Hershey  auction in Fall of 2010; photos still available on their site. Both beauties.

That is correct, they were both purchased there. They will be sold no reserve in October and head to a new home!

Our annual meet is the week of June 8 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. If you bought an ad in the meet tour book you could expose these two cars to a lot of interested people!

    They are rare, desirable models.

The model 43 was a good running car back in the 80’s and 90’s when Frank had it.
