This ‘36 Pierce sold for $117,600 ( including 12% buyers fee) at the Broad Arrow Auction held at Amelia Island, FL several weeks ago to the lament of several PAS members over it’s low selling price. Some wondered if the car was purchased by a hobbyist or by a classic car dealer. If you look at Hemmings Motor News online classified section you’ll find the car listed by Ellington #1Classic and Collector Cars in Minnesota for $209,995. Their website says “we encourage people to call us” so I did. They confirmed that they had purchased the car at Amelia Island and other than transporting the car to MN and detailing it , nothing else had been done. Assuming they sell the car at its asking price , they’ll pocket $92,495 ( less the cost of washing the car and shipping) for a 79 percent return on their investment. Always interested in getting a good return on my money ( as Ellington #1 apparently does), I was rebuffed when I asked if it would be possible to purchase stock in the company .

For my money, purchasing a classic car from a dealer is never the prudent thing to do and neither is buying one at auction (although in this case maybe it was a good idea).

“Assuming they sell the car at its asking price”

I wouldn’t make that assumption. They may know something that none of us know, but unless there is a substantial bundle of cash in the trunk, I strongly doubt they will sell that car at that price or anything close to it.  But as P. T.. Barnum said “there’s a sucker born every minute”

Over the past 24 hours, the car has been showing up on Social Media (Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube).  They are casting a wide net.

Is this a factory build or a conversion…….

No, this is a real car.  It belonged to Ted Fosgate when I first joined the PAS.  It had been through a number of owners before John Steckbeck really ironed out all the mechanical issues.   The fake ones have the rear doors hinged like a sedan, both door handles are together in the middle.  My car is body number 6,, I forgot the number of Bob’s car
