Stopped by the auction this afternoon (Sunday, Jan 22) and saw that the ’37 V-12 closed cab limo previously listed here had sold. Some confusion exists as to selling price Tag on car says $35k but Barrett Jackson web site says $38.5 k. Difference is what the buyer actually paid since 10% of sales price is added to what buyer pays (BJ charges a commission to both buyer and seller). All BJ sales prices on their site are thus always inflated by commision buyer had to pay. Of course in this case , the seller only realized $31. 5k The big winner here is BJ. And the State of AZ ,Maricopa County and Scottsdale for sales tax added to sales price .

Nice car, nice price!
That sounds like a great deal for a V-12, unless it had some hidden fatal flaw we don’t know about…not perfect but usable for sure!
From my observation at the auction, most of the guys bidding were ages ranging in their 50’s-60’s and were focused on muscle cars from the 70’s (used cars to me) as these are cars they wanted in their youth.Rare high point classics still brought top dollar but cars such as this Pierce which appeared solid didn’t attract much attention. Unfortunately, a lot of the attendees never heard of Pierce Arrow or other pre-war classics. We need to focus on attracting young members but unfortunately, I don’t have a clue how that can be accomplished.I haven’t had much success in getting my kids interested in hobbies I pursue.
Here are some more results from Scottsdale. Worldwide has not posted sales figures yet, so their prices quoted are from my memory, which is not nearly as reliable as the cars depicted. RM sold this Pebble Beach winning 1931 LeBaron convertible sedan for $154,000
From John Porbeck’s collection auctioned by Worldwide, this 1927 Judkins coupe sold for around $60K
John’s 34 Twelve cyl 5-Pass sedan sold for $38,500 + 10% buyer’s fee.
John’s final car at the auction was this 31 Club Sedan which sold for around $19K.
John’s 1923 Series 33 Limo sold in the high 30’s to low 40’s
Was the 31 LeBaron the Tom Williams car when it won at Pebble Beach?
Peter, no the ex-Tom Williams car is a Convertible Victoria in a butterscotch color, and it sold last year (again) for $415,000 hammer = $456,500 after buyer’s premium was added.
IMHO, John Porbeck’s cars would have brought more at a venue other than Scottsdale, where most of the money is spent on 1950s and 1960s iron.
Thanks guys for passing this information on. It’s pretty encouraging for me to see that some really nice cars are selling for prices that I can afford!
I think John’s cars sold below what they should have.
The ’31 was a steal at $19k.

The ’37 V12 should have been sold by the pound! They would have made
more money!
The ’34 twelve cylinder is now on Ebay, listed by a dealer….
