For the geeks among us (yes, myself and many others) today is Pi day as it is March 14, often written as 3/14. The real celebration should be held today at 1pm, 59 minutes and 27 seconds. (3/14/1/59/26.53) but 2 pm is close enough for a loud cheer.
Pi is an irrational number for the relationship between the number of diameters to equal the circumference of a circle. The typical numeric used today is 3.14 which is good enough for most applications. If you want to get carried away, use 3.141592653 Some computers, with nothing better to do, have calculated Pi to more than 62 trillion decimal places.
