I know someone out there knows the answer to this question.
What is this timing mark on the top of the distributor (to the left of the twizzer point) used for? How and what do you align it to?
Thanks in advance.
Bill
Ok, Captain Obvious, I figured it out. It points to the front of the engine. Kind of obvious, but so is the way it is made. I guess Pierce didn’t want anything left for granted. Another mystery in life solved.
Hi Bill,
The rounded point on the steel where the mark is would seem to be obvious enough of an indication of the ‘front’ of the casting. As would the large rear protrusion with the threaded hole be an obvious ‘rear’ pointer. So to me the mark is a mystery.
Like you said, the way the piece is made, with the three mounting holes mating with the holes in the cylinder head, it is pretty difficult to put the tower in wrong. And if installed wrong, it becomes obvious once the distributor and the external advance-retard arms, plates and cable are attempted to be installed. The tower can only work in one position.
