found this pic on the net, thought I would share it with all of you. No information came with it though.
We photographed this Galloping Goose two years ago in Dolores, CO, while touring with our 1965 S-Type Jaguar saloon.
You can see another Goose in the background in this photo taken in Telluride, CO, on the same trip.
I believe the one in Telluride and the one Curtiss posted are both #4. It was originally built from a ’26 Series 33 but had a new body and motor installed in the 1940’s. It was restored about 5 years ago.
I think about three of the Geese remain. There was a nice book on these published some years back. The railroad purchased the used Pierce Arrows from Kumpf Motors of Denver.
Wow, such great responses, thank you, you guys really know your stuff!
Actually, all but one of the original seven remain. Goose #1, built from a Buick, is gone but has been recreated.
#2, #6 & #7 are at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden.
#3 is at Knott’s Berry Farm (along with other former Rio Grande Southern equipment)
#4 is in Telluride, Colorado
#5 is in Dolores, Colorado
With the restoration of #4 a few years back, all of the Geese are operational, although none still have Pierce-Arrow engines.
Here’s a link to a YouTube video of a gaggle of geese at the Colorado Railroad Museum a few years back….
