No, not YOUR parts; I mean, Pierce-Arrow parts that you own. Do you ever run across something that you stuck back, just in case, that you cannot identify? What will happen if we are incapacitated or pass on and someone has to deal with all our precious Pierce-Arrow and other stuff? They may well throw it in the trash because they have no way of knowing what it is or if it has any value to anyone.

I have thought about this off and on, but it came back up this week when Kathy came to me with a small zip-lock bag with three serious-looking but unidentified parts she found in her late husband’s “toys”. Several day’s investigation revealed they were gun parts and worth keeping for someone so interested. I wrote identifying info on a PostIt and included it in the bag, for future reference.

I have bits and pieces of several different Cars that I have stuck back, which will mean nothing at all to the rest of my family. I promise that from now on, I will include identification with each part which is worthwhile (not bolts nuts or hardware unless it is special in some way), and I will also indicate if the item is particularly valuable (like the pristine distributor cap I have for the Series 80). I am laying in a supply of zip-lock bags, labels, and a Sharpie so it will be handy to do this, or else I won’t do it. I bet a lot of us are already doing this, but I promise I will do better…
