Model 8o Starter Motor

Does any one know  the spec amp draw on the model 80 starter motor. It turns very very slowly with a good 6 volt Optimum battery. I cleaned all connections

The previous owner had used a 7.5 tp 8.0 tractor battery which I think was a “band aid” to solve the slow speed starter problem.

Knowing the spec amp draw and comparing to what I get on my starter, I will get my answer send it out for a complete rebuild

Hi Art- Reed’s manual says the starter Model 297  should draw 150-300 amps, turning at 130 RPM. Running free the current should be 60 amps at 6 volts. Brush tension should be 2-1/4 to 2-3/4 pounds.
