If anyone has an extra Oil Drain Cock or contact for someone who does I am in need of one and it would be greatly appreciated if someone is willing to sell it.
Charles,
Do you have both but one doesn’t work or what?
Do you need just the drain cock or the drain cock and the handle?
Peter
I have a working High Level Cock and handle but only a plug in the Drain Hole.
The threaded drain plug rarely leaks, however, the drain cock does tend to wear, or be damaged from a rock or stick, and starts to leak.
The convenience of turning a handle to drain the oil might not be worth the drips and mess.
Greg
Seems it’s just a 1/4 turn brass drain cock which was and is still a standard hardware item; a quick search of my Grainger and McMaster-Carr catalogs reveal several candidates which could serve well once a slight modification to the handle is made and the extension handle pinned on.
I think I will stick with my drain plug but I did think about replacing it.
Charles,
Greg is correct on the dripping thing.
However, you can use valve grinding compound to tighten it up and the drain cock is easier to use than a plug (that typically drops into you oil drain pan when you unscrew it to drain your oil – a PAIN).
Also, Wayne Hancock had some of the long, flat metal brackets made that center the handle (see your illustration).
I’ll look around to see what I have, but you should start a search on eBay for the drain cock / pet cock.
In addition, there are a number of pet cocks on eBay that would serve your purpose, even if they are not correct.
You could use one of those until you find the correct fitting.
Peter
BTW, modification is a common thing to do when it comes to finding parts for our P-A cars.
Also, I believe that in Judging at PAS Meets, the judges do not look under the car.
The judges do look under the car. There is a section for this on the judging form.
Thanks for your help guys. I do have the flat metal piece that Center’s the handle. I do like the looks and character it gives and will most likely pursue finding one versus using the plug.
