I started working on my oil cooler, oil filter and lines. The lines are 1/2″ OD copper. The actual OD is .500″ not Nominal like you would find in copper piping. They have what appears to be a 37 degree flare on the ends, which matches typical fluid line specs. Mine looked to be nickel plated which is what the initials NW (nickel white) indicates in the parts book.
I was then trying to find some fittings to attach the lines. I came up with the following:
SAE 070111 (Aeroquip 221000 or Weatherhead C5115) Long Flare Nut (JIC). Part Number 304-08 which has .500″ ID and female 3/4″ x 16 threads like the filter has.
The ones I got were steel and the difference compared to original were,
length 1.28″ vs orig 1.109″ ( you can flycut/grind/saw the ends down)
Length of hex section .446 vs .471 (.025″) which is noticeable in side by side below. I doubt if you can tell on the car without actually measuring.
I got them for $1.47 each plus freight from Hydraulicsdirect.com., which fit my budget. They are cad plated so will have to be nickled.
Here is clearer shot. You would take material from the top to shorten.
Modern fittings will knock off points every time during judging. Incorrect oil lines, fittings, and oil filters are incorrect more often than not today. It takes a lot of time and a fair amount of money to get all the lines correct. Ed.
