Hi,
Does anyone have or have a photo of a 1929 Shutterstat?
Thanks, Rick
You can go chrome or painted……..what do you need a photo for……linkage, missing parts, ect. Let me know, I may have photos of a 30 somewhere if that will help. They are a pain to get working correctly, you don’t want them to bind, but if they are loose they will rattle.
Richard, first thing we need to know is the linkage going over the top of the radiator or do you have a pass through hole in the top tank? Do you have any arms or links at all? Karl
Karl,
There is a lever arm that goes to the radiator and then a rod is attached to the arm that goes through a hole and into the radiator.
I bought one offline and the mechanic says it is reversed from what is needed.
Any help Karl. Thanks in advance.
I am not asking chrome or painted. The piece is solid brass, hidden inside the radiator.
Richard, I am not sure what’s left of your shutterstat, the Thermostat bellows that is mounted in the radiator uses a short rod that threads to the bellows on one end. The other end is just threaded rod. Using double nuts the rod adjusts the travel of the first pivot. I don’t have one out of the car but should be an easy piece to manufacture. Brian Joseph could have a used one, give him a call Classic and Exotics, Troy Michigan. If the Stat has been replaced with some later parts we may need photos to see what you need. The 1930 and later parts look different but could be made to work also. Did you send your bellows out for rebuild? Karl
Let’s see if these pictures are small enough to post.
Try again.

The actual billows inside the Shutterstat.
If you notice, the main unit is not connected at all on my car.
The unit does not function properly and pretty much hasn’t ever since I can remember.
I’ll have to tackle that one of these days.
Craig,
The last photo is what I need. I am obviously misstating what
the part is called. I thought the billows was what was called the shutterstat. I need that complete piece. The one in the radiator is missing.
Rick
Richard, the cage is on e-bay 262779159501 for $50, the bellows are on from time to time also. Classic sells the gaskets. Karl
The one on ebay is cracked, can that be repaired before installation?
It appears to be brass, will brazing the crack hold up over time?
Craig, the part will need to be soldered so it wont leak coolant. It has no moving parts, but acts as the back rest so all pressure would be at the nut and should be fine. The same seller has the front plate for $75. item #252697716243. Karl
That cover is in pretty rough shape but it would work for someone who is missing the entire piece.
Richard, just to go back to the original question I had, does your arm go through the radiator or is it like the above photos? The early 1929 shutterstat is different and none of the parts look the same. Late 1929 and 1930’s have the one Craig is showing. Karl
I will get a photo Monday.
The best I can describe, there is a hole in the top of the radiator. A rod and spring arm holds a rod that goes through the hole to the billows. My backside faceplate is pretty flat with a metal nameplate on it. It does not look like the ones in the photo.
The billows looks like the part in the 29 parts catalog.
My car was sold in Nov ’29 so it makes sense that it has the very late ’29/’30 style radiator.
There are lots of parts on mine that are a mix of ’29/’30.
Looks the same as the unit in my ‘31
Richard has the early 29 radiator that uses the air Bellows and not the water shutterstat he needs the Bellows and the rod that connects to the first link that runs across the front of the radiator this is a 29 early feature. Karl
