Rick, This Stat requires a plug in the one inch round hole to keep the heat at the stat. Without this plug the air temp will not open the stat well. You will have to fabricate a plug that fits tight and drill for the rod. I used a 1/2 thick piece of round cork and drilled a hole and used high temp grease at the shaft. But first you need the bellows and shaft. Karl

Jim Otto in Nashville , TN is a retired Sylphon engineer who still does Sylphon repair. Perhaps he can help. Give him a call 865-966-9494

Rick needs all this minus the cover, Karl

Looked at my ‘31’s radiator; it’s the same as the pic posted on Dec 1 with a notch in the tank to

Make room for the link ; shutterstat looks identical also.

    Karl,

I found a man who custom made the shutterstat/bellows for me, with the connecting rod. I do have one question.

The guy indicated that a little antifreeze should be added to the cavity that it is inserted to.

where the arm/rod goes through the radiator is an open hole. There is no way to ad antifreeze without it leaking out. Is there another cavity that I am missing that needs or can hold fluid/antifreeze.

    Thanks, Rick

Richard, no coolant in there. Be sure to make a foam or cork to keep the heat in on the rod going towards the front. I am glad you can cross off one more item on the impossible to find parts list! Karl
