Pat and I joined Paul Johnson on the Modoc Tour this year driving with him in his Series 33 from Salem, OR down to the tour site in Alturas, CA. En route we stopped overnight in Klamath Falls, OR, and had dinner at a restaurant near the motel where this photo was on the wall. With no front brakes it looks like a 1922-early 1924 Series 33. The logo on the side states “Howard Transportation Company”” and “”Greyhound”” The route and destinations are identified on the front canopy as “”Klamath-Medford-Portland”” and the letters and numbers at the rear are “”O.P.S.C. 396″”. This was a pretty neat photo to find while travelling through the area in Paul’s 1924 7-pass touring!”

This is a very interesting photo. Pity the license plate is not visible to show the year of the photograph. This looks like a lengthened two-wheel brake Dual Valve. The steering wheel spyder appears to be steel, making it pretty early. The body center section was then built up. The fact that the Model Z bus was made from a lot of the same components may have given someone ideas.

A lot of P-A cars were converted into people haulers for both road and rail. They were durable, dependable and were not too expensive to buy used.

I have requested a copy of the photo from the Klamath County (Oregon) Historical Society. That may have better detail. The steering wheel spokes would make the car a 1921 Series 32 or early 1922 Series 33.

I have a 1924 aluminum body glass roof Pierce Arrow tourring Bus. It is a Z chassis. Mine has steel disc wheels. I am looking for at least two more wheels. These were used on trucks & trailers of different makes. It is a 24 inch Budd Wheel. Tire size is 36 X 6 It has 2 hand holes & 8 lugs.
