Does anyone know if Pierce had adjustable foot rests for the open phaeton ? A man who sells accessories told me there was an accessories footrest by Pierce that fit behind the floor storage compartment on the open phaetons. Does anyone know if this is true?
Thanks. Rick
There is a footrest on the phaetons, it’s hinged so that it can stow against the bottom of the rear seat cushion, or rotate forward to allow a foot to rest against it. It’s wood, oval shaped, with cast ends and hinges. I can send you a picture tomorrow. I don’t think it was an accessory, but standard…
Dave is correct, all the phaetons had them.
Description is similar to the one on my ’36 convertible sedan
Here’s a picture, yes the wool carpet needs cleaning!
and a view folded back, note the binding running the length, the wood has a slot running the length of it to fasten ends of carpet then put binding over seam, in this case I used wire-on
The rear floor in the DC phaeton has a storage compartment behind front seat. It shortens the distance for a foot rest significantly. Was there a footrest with shorter distance that would fit my car?
Rick
Please post a photo of the storage compartment. I have looked at a LOT of Pierce touring cars and do not remember seeing one. My Series 42 D/C has a cabinet mounted across the back of the front seat as showen in the sales literature. Sever others have copied it over the years, but as far as I know only my Series 42 came with it from the factory.

I will go to the shop and take a photo. Mine too has the shelf as you describe. However, mine has a storage compartment that is built on an angle on the floor. There is a finger hole to pull lid open. It is hinged on the floor and pulls open toward the rear seat.

The storage compartment on an angle with finger pull is exactly the same in my Model 42 convertible that I no longer own.
That’s an interesting storage compartment, but for some reason it doesn’t look like it’s factory. Is it nicely constructed, or is it just plywood (which the end piece appears to be). Nicely hinged or does it look home made? The quality of construction would go a long way in determining if Pierce did it.
Don’t forget, high end furniture of the day did use plywood construction. It was much more stable than regular wood, especially in humidity and widely varying temperatures. Check for Phillips screws, that may be a clue.
The storage compartment on the floor with finger-pull hinged-at-bottom lid, is identical to that in my 1930 Model B roadster.
The storage compartment wood matches that of the shelf above it. It looks to be original to me.
Ok! Back to my original question . Is there a footrest that fits the floor with storage compartment?
Thanks. Rick
If you have a copy of the Series 133-143 parts book,it should have a listing for the rear footrest in the tonneau cowl phaeton which was the factory term for the dual cowl phaeton.I believe there should be one but yours may have been removed for some reason.
