THE DC PHAETON IS BEING PAINTED!!!!!

Hi all,

Its been two years and several delays but the phaeton is being painted. I have kept my colors secret for all this time. Well, I have decided to show the colors to all of you. I know colors are a very personal thing and not everyone will love my choices but it will look awesome when done.

The dark color in the photo looks black but in fact it is a dark teal green. The convertible top will also be a matching teal green. The field of the car is a champagne/bronze. Not quite sure how to describe the color.

The fenders will also be the teal green. I have not decided on the pinstripe color. (Any suggestions?) I wanted the car to be different than the colors i see most of the time. I think I achieved that goal.

Whew, I was worried about what colors you were going to pick, but that looks nice! I like that the green is a dark shade.

Of course, being a hobbyist trimmer, I would question the top material. If it’s Haartz/Stayfast, there’s only one greenish color available, and it’s much lighter than the paint you show.

What color interior! Black I hope, or?

As far as pinstripe goes, body color on the green would work, unless you’re doing something different with wheel color, and then you might want to match stripe to wheel color.

On another note, make sure your painter gets all the way around on the jambs on the doors, the upholstery panels don’t really go all the way to the edge. I made this mistake on my ’31 phaeton, see attached picture…

I found a tel green top matetial from germany. I have started to consider matching the bronze and then have green accents on the top. Well see. The interior will either be the datk teal green or something that matches the bronze. Brown, butterscotch, taupe. Not sure.

I like your body color choices. I’m familiar with Sonnenland top material (actually a Haartz product too), and there is a dark green available. That and a dark green leather interior might work, but it’ll be tricky to get all the green shades to match. Green is almost as bad as gray, trying to get 2 or 3 different shades to blend!

It’s my personal opinion that top and interior choices can make or break the overall look of the car, and trying to get too fancy can ruin it.

Of course, as always, it’s your car and your choice, but if I were doing the car I’d lean toward traditional trim treatments. Dark green interior and black top, black interior and black top. I’m not sure how tan interior and top would work with the “bronze” body color. It would work with the green, but just not sure on the main body color.

Just my thoughts, but intent should be to end up with a car that gets an “Oh Wow” and not an “Oh Gee”!!!

You are correct on the different shades of green. I has been one of the hardest things to coordinate. At one point, I gave up on the teal because matching it was so difficult.

I originally selected silver and the teal green. However, the sliver was cold and did not give the look I wanted. The bronze was an accidental selection. I was scouring over paint book after paint book. I held the bronze up and it looked brilliant against the teal. Thought about that or two shades of blue. I then decided the blues were not right and blue is a common color.

This is what I am thinking. Match the top to the bronze paint. Ad a few teal green accents on the rear cording of the top and spare covers. I would then use the dark teal leather for the interior.

I think it might work because there is a significant break of broze between the reveal and the interior. If they have the same tone, the exact shade won’t be noticed.

Thoughts? I was thinking of a pinstripe of wine or lighter purple. Something that will stand out but not scream across the room. lolo
