Another Pierce member to the rescue. Thanks Dave M. For giving up a FANTASTIC original Uu2 CARB FOR MY 29 at a reasonable price. That’s 3 , almost impossible parts. In a month. The Pierce gods must be smiling on me and my car.

Congrats on the UU-2, they are getting harder and harder to find.

Going to be a point where, unless new ones are cast, ’29s being judged will not get points off for not having a UU-2 under the hood.

    Craig,

They had it running for over 30 minutes. They even ran it through the gears. (car jacked off the floor). It runs as smooth as butter. ;)

Hi Richard, it is best to refrain from too much idling of a fresh engine. A fresh rebuilt engine needs to be run on the road, with some ‘load’ on the engine, in order to create the combustion chamber pressure needed to push the rings against the cylinders to get the rings to seat.

Many times, a car undergoing restoration is started and let idle for a few minutes every few months, but since the car is not yet road-worthy, the engine is not ‘working’. The rings never seat-in, and the cylinders get a ‘glaze’ on them, and the rings as well, and they will not seat-in once they are glazed.

So, wait for the car to be road-worthy, and then find a hill to climb several times, the power needed to pull a hill requires a fair amount or even all the engines power, and creating this power is what makes the pressures that get the rings to seat..

We all are looking forward to seeing your car back together again and you driving it !!

Also, I have always heard that you should never maintain a steady RPM for too long with a fresh engine.

So even when you get the car out on the road try not to do too much steady freeway driving.

Greg and Craig are correct. Also, don’t assume the carburetor you have is set up correctly. You can burn the valves and melt a piston if you run it incorrectly. If you shop doesn’t have a five gas exhaust analyzer to check on the burn your taking a big chance with a fresh engine.

    Craig and Geg,

Thanks. I will forward your info to the mechanic. The car did not sit idling. It was up and down etc… However, the wheels have yet to hit the road. The hill climb and load on the car makes sense.

The carb is tuned to perfection. The car sounds amazing
