Then there’s this, I’m looking for valve springs for an early Buick engine, think I’ll contact them…

Certainly NOT for a high rpm engine. But just fine for a hit-and-miss engine turning 100-200 rpm.

I have some valve catalogs somewhere, if I have the dimensions I could try to find some more modern (less old?) NOS valves that could be adapted.

Karl: I measured an early Series 33 used valve (intake and exhaust are the same). The dimensions are: Length = 8 1/2″, Stem = .406″ and top = 8 1/2″. These valves may have been dressed a bit over the years. The valves are available from Egge.

    Paul and all,

Restoring trucks are a labor of love. My goal is to make this truck run after a 60+ year sleep.

Greg L. checked and his old 1919 model 38 valves and they are also 8 1/2 inches long and not 8 3/4 inches, the same as Paul’s valves they are both .406 inch diameter. I was hoping to keep the engine project from becoming a full rebuild if possible. I will not be doing much touring with 5 tons of anything at 15 mph!! It will be a great hpof vehicle if I can get it moving again. I just checked my length again and it did not change 8 3/4″. This truck also uses a 4 1/2 inch bore. Same as 48 hp. cars? I appreciate the other leads from Ed and David for new valves. I will wait and see if someone finds 48 hp valves to see if they could be longer before I venture to get some made. Karl”

Karl, before you spend $50-$60 per valve, get in touch, I have several part numbers for diesel valves that make good cores to machine new valves from.

Egge gets $55 per valve for the ones for my S31 1919 Pierce.

I told the salesman at Egge that $55 was ‘not too bad’ a price, and gleefully said ‘and there are ONLY 24 of them to buy !! ‘ I don’t think he understood my sarcasm.

Using a much better Inconel SS valve from a big Caterpillar engine, my valves cost me about $15 each.

Maybe these people can help. I know nothing about them.

A mind is a terrible thing to lose – I can’t locate my valve catalog.
