Could any of you with brass car knowledge tell me about this norwegian Pierce-Arrow? The chassis no. is 7945. I Guess 1911-12 – model 48 SS (?).
The vehicle register lists this as a 1910 model 48-SS owned by William Parker, 372 Dartmouth, Boston, MA based on 1912-1913 MA registration #4237.
This is a Pierce Arrow that has received with what appears to be a Packard body and later fenders. The photo seems to indicate the car is in livery service.
The Packard body appears to be a 1913 to 1915 and the fenders are
not P-A. They look to be European.
Also I was a bit surpriced of the body style. I suppose the car has been into an serious accident and received a new body and fenders. “You take what you find!”” Here is another photo of the car.”
The license plate and headlamps look European. Was it an US owned car that got sold or traded in Europe then pressed into livery service? The headlamps look like German Carl Zeiss gas headlamps. The car could have been ten or eleven years old when the photo was taken.
I know very little of the cars history. What I have found out is that the car was registrated in Norway in 1916 (nummer plate F-317) as a Taxi. It could have been an imported used US-car.
Here is a photo of a friends 1916 Packard (rally in Germany). Very similar to the body of the Pierce in question!
A serial number 7945 would indicate a late 1910 48SS. An elderly
club roster states that car 7940 has evaded dismantlers, fires, WWII
scrap drives, and other evil-dooers, as a survivor. Out of about 800
’10 Model 48SS’s built, a ’09 Roster mentioned 4 that Members owned.
Cherish what time has preserved for us, and give thanks that odd
people open their garages and wallets to insure there’s a future for
antiquities.
