I’ve been looking into these cars for a few years now and have been trying to find a project sedan.  Despite making two deals, both fell through.

The first was a 1926 Series 80 where we agreed on $9,500 with California title.  After 3 months, he couldn’t get the title.  I told him it would cost me $1,500 to go through the bonded title process in Texas and I requested the $1,500 be taken off the agreed price.  He chose, instead, to cancel the sale.

The second one I agreed to $16,000 on a 1927 Series 36.  The seller wanted Zelle, which I do not trust, or a check.  I mailed him a bank check, but he sold the car out from underneath me.

I will be searching again in spring for a summer project to add to my collection, but I don’t see projects come along often; especially the pre-1928 models that I’m looking for.

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Hi Chad,

If you keep looking, you will find what you are looking for.  I would suggest watching the Emporium on this website, plus all the normal selling places such as Hemming’s, Bring a Trailer, and similar.  There are a couple of Series 80s on the Emporium currently but I don’t know that they would qualify as “projects”.  What is your definition of project?  Something needing everything for a full restoration, or a basically complete car that needs to be rehabbed to make a decent driver.  Prices, particularly for cars needing work, are down right now, so it’s a good time to be looking. Welcome to the Pierce-Arrow Society and good luck with your hunt. If you have any questions, please post them here.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Thank you, Dave.  I’ve browsed the Emporium and will likely put up a more detailed “want ad” in the spring.</p>
What I’m looking for is moderately specific; a pre-1928 4-door sedan in need of restoration.  What I mean by that is something with minimal wood rot, an engine that turns but may not run or runs and needs attention due to leaks and other issues, rough paint and plating, an interior with stains or other damage.

I specifically want an imperfect car as I love getting to know a car by working on it.

I’m not opposed to any car, but there is a “Too rough for the price” like the 1927 Series 80 in Morgantown, PA that’s listed at $16k with no cylinder head or the 1925 Series 80 in Paducah, KY that’s a parts car for $4,500.

    Best regards,

    Chad Krause

    Chad,

There currently is a ’27 Series 80 listed on the Pierce-Arrow Society Facebook page. Definitely a project, it looks pretty rough.
