Woven versus Molded Brake Lining

I’ve been told by the owner of Sterling Restorations in Illinois to use woven brake linings with embedded brass and not to use "asbestos" (I believe he meant "molded," as obviously asbestos has not been used for quite some time) because "asbestos" won’t stop the car. Yesterday, however, I was told by the counter-man at a well-known local brake shop that woven linings are more prone to cause brakes to seize. Please let me know your experiences and opinions. Also, does anyone recommend arcing the linings to the drums? Apparently this used to be a common procedure, but lost favor when asbestos lawsuits became common. Thanks for your input.
