The photo shows two eight-cylinder oil pans. Why does one of them have a bump in the front?

I’ll take a guess.. The non-bump one is for a 366cuin engine with 4-3/4″ stroke crankshaft, and the pan with the bump is for the 385cuin engine with 5″ stroke,, so the bump is to clear the larger diameter arc of the connecting rod.

Just guessing, I checked all my oil pans and engines, none have the bump and all are 366cuin engines.

Thanks, Greg. I probably would have figured it out if I put on the wrong pan and heard the number one rod hitting it!
