Oil pressure relief valve

In my search for a low oil pressure problem in a ’31 series 42 engine, I started with the oil pressure relief valve. It seems that this system has had many interpretations and is expected to do multiple tasks, such as relief valve, pressure regulator, timing gear oiler, and plug.

Is there any technical data or factory information about it? Has anyone had any specific maintenance experience with it. Any advice appreciated.
