what lub. is used in the rear end of a 33 PA and where can i get it?
NAPA will have it available
GL-1 NON-EP 90W
G’day Bill—Is the rear end Hypoid Bevel or Worm?
Bill,
If it is an 836 or a 1236, it will have a worm drive from the factory and have a bronze bull gear. If so, you MUST use a non-sulfur-bearing lubricant (not the typical rear end lube), so the bronze wheel does not get attacked. Not a problem for the 1242 and 1247 which are hypoid.
Restoration Supply Co also has Lubriplate lubricants (below)
http://www.restorationstuff.com/pdf/RestorationSupplyCompany.pdf
The owner manual for the 836 lists the lubricant for the rear axle as
“Special Lubricants” obtainable at all authorized Pierce Arrow Service Stations, particularly for the transmission, rear axle and steering gear.”
Of course I am answering this as if it is for a 1933 not Model 33. If it is for a Model 33, forget all of the above.
