Series 80 front wheel axle grease seal source?

I am replacing the front bearings (inner and outer) on my 1926 Series 80 Runabout. I was able to source the bearings and races easily thanks to George Teebay’s article from a few years ago with Timken model numbers. What I can’t identify (by part number) is the grease seal behind the inner bearing and brake drum. Looks like a single lip metal housing with felt in between.

Does anybody know where I can source (2) of those grease seals? I am open to recommendations of changing to a modern material as long as it is an easy fit to replace the original.

Andy, I don’t think you will find any NORS replacements.  Your best bet is to find industrial felt and cut it to fit in the space available in the metal carrier.  I don’t immediately have access to the felt grade number suitable, but perhaps another commenter can elucidate.  Measure the desired ID of the felt from the OD of its mating surface on the spindle, and calculate the OD from the depth of the cavity in the carrier after the old felt is removed.

Do you really NEED to replace felts as would be indicated by missing chunks or grease that has migrated where it shouldn’t?  I’m usually able to add a coat of grease or heavy gear oil to the felt’s mating surface unless there are gaps.

Thanks George! I appreciate the insight. Nothing is leaking, but I thought I should “replace” the seals as long as I was doing the job. I did find a shop in Massachusetts that will cut the felt for me (Hemmings advertising vendor).

I realize the felt seal sandwiched between the two metal cups might be replaceable… but was also interested in a possible modern replacement if anyone had prior experience. Also…. any tips or pointers on prying the two metal cups apart without damage or distorting the surfaces would be greatly appreciated.
