Two questionable drill holes

My DC has two drill holes on the dash. They are about 3 inches to the left of teh trip light knob/cigar lighter in some cars. The holes are small and about 3 incehs apart. The paint around the holes is undisturbed so they might be original.

Any idea what might have been there? A plaque? Vanity box? or whatever was there was not supposed to be. Anyone have anything like that in their cars??? Forgot to take a pic of this. sorry.

The dashboards of these cars tend to get extra holes over the years.They could have been there for a dealer plate.The cigar lighter is the only unit

on the right side.
