Dr. Pete,
Thanks for the advice. I am doing what I like. However, being a lawyer, just as you are a DR, want it to be just so. I am also smart enough to know that Perfection does not exist and I will finally come to that conclusion when the final decision is made.
Rick
Dave,
I am not using black or tan. It will be an unusual color. It will be tasteful, not a car that sits in front of a bordello. It will look like its on its way to the Opera.
My 88 yr old mother came up with an idea on paint scheme that I like alot. the car might be a hair diff than the norm, but it will accomplish what I am looking for.
With all that said, I must agree, matching paint, leather and tops is a B****.
Rick
p.s. I cant tell you guys the color. I have to have one surprise left for the reveal )))))
Has anyone seen a 20’s or 30’s Pierce with original metallic paint?
– Side note:
I am selecting colors for the Phaeton. Or should I say, STILL, selecting colors. Its not the color that is that difficult, but matching the tones of the leather and convertible top seems almost impossible. Everything seems to be just OFF! Grrrrr Now I know why one of the reasons for a different color top is to contrast the color because its difficult to match it.
Ill keep looking. Any ideas?
Dave,
Thanks! Your description is the exact reason I wondered if it might be original. The metallic in that car was very fine and not bold at all. Maybe that beauty was repainted in the late 20’s or early 30’s. The paint was obviously old. That is why I stood there scratching my head. Lolol
Rick
Oops! Sorry for the typo in title.
Dave,
Unless you already know, I will look in my catalogs and see if I can find a make, model and year for you. It is at least early 20’s maybe teens.
Rick
Thats awesome! You would ruin it if you restored it. I love originals and you have a great one right in your own home.
Thanks steve. That is what I needed to know.

Thanks Dr Pete, as usual.
I went with the original black plot for the engine instead of green. If correct, I would like to go with the grey finish on the manifold to give some contrast, along with the chrome against the black.
Rick
P.S. Dr Pete. The bezels came back from the chromers. Super awesome!!!!

Thanks guys,
My crew and I looked closely at the manifolds and agree they were porcelainized. Infact, most of it is still there and in good shape. Unfortunately, it was ruined becase of several cracks that needed to be welded. The manifolds will be reporcelainized again. My problem is the true color. They TRULY look like they were two shades of grey. Or at least one grey and one black.
Anyone out there has an original 29 with manifolds that survived? What color are they?
Thanks, Rick
I totally agree with you. My guy works on $2500 increments. He works that much, then I pay him. It has worked well. The mechanic bills me monthly for hours worked. Neither bill me for what is about to happen.
Hey!!!
Something happened to the awesome post about the glacial crawl. Where did it go?????
Rick
Do you have a photo of the correct clock? I purchased a few that I thought were correct for my 29 but learned they were not.
Rick
“SPEED UP TO A GLACIAL CRAWL” That is awesome because it is so true. I had a great plan, with a great time frame for each piece that was farmed out. Geeeeeee, surprise. No one else s time frame matched their claim. Even those who said 1 year. lololo I should have known.
The whire wheels should be here by the end of Oct. They were to be done first of August. lolol Lets hope they appear. I’m excited to see the rebuilt chrome beauties.
The instruments have no end date yet. Was told 1 year. That was July of 15. “art work is done. We need to work on the instruments now”
Radio: I think this was forgotten on the shelf for a year. I called and all i heard was all the reasons why it was tougher then normal. “i can still do it but…..” lolo Ill keep you updated on this piece.
Chrome: This is actually not too bad but slow never the less. The quality is awesome. However he moves very slowly. We are just about done with all the large pieces. Too come are the tiny pieces. Inventorying them is almost tougher than chroming them. You have to mark each piece and where the heck it goes. If you lose that tagging. YOU are messed up!
Im sure there are many of you that are smiling, “i remember that”. Any good resto funny/horror stories people want to share???
Come on. you among-st friends. Lets hear about them.
Rick
