Hi, Gang, I hope someone will have compassion on we who are not there, and post some cool photos of the goings-on! I really miss it and plan to better arrange my affairs so I can be there next year.
You all have a great time!
Sorry I won’t be able to attend; you all have a great week!
As the green Pierce is listed as still for sale, does anyone know the high bid?
Kathryn and I are so sorry for your loss. Loki was a very special fellow! We will miss him but remember him fondly.
I bought black nuts from ARP which were the correct wrench size, plus they had a washer formed on one side. Worked great.
Maybe the threads are for a puller? Speculation…
I was able to find a visual of a trimmer installing a top insert on a Ford Model A on the internet; I will try to find and share the link. Dave’s excellent explanation has renewed my interest in the subject.
There you go, makin’ us all proud. Beautiful Car!
That gasket as I recall on my Series 80 will fit properly only one way. the bolts may appear to be arranged symmetrically but they are not, so don’t panic if your gasket appears at first to not fit.
Previous Caretaker replaced all the bolts with stainless during a rebuild so I was OK there; my problem was that the cover had corroded from the inside out until it weeped. Solution: have a welder at work run a small bead over the corroded area on the inside/wet side with a wire welder. No more leaks after two years. It can take a little fiddling to get it together with no leaks/seeps but you will get it. Also I recall that most or all the bolt holes are accessible once the plate is off because the holes, at least on my Series 80, are drilled and tapped through.
Special cars cost more: custom bodies; convertible sedans, especially large chassis models, are worth more. About the bottom are standard sedans in the small, least expensiive series.
There was a spark plug on the market (“Colortune”) which had a clear body, for tuning. You could actually see the flame color and adjust the mixture at idle, but it would not stand much pressure or heat so it was for tuning at idle only. I have one somewhere but I have never tried it; wonder if anyone has?
Love these! There was one entered in the London-Brighton in 2015, and it was almost perfect; quite beautiful.
Perhaps the limousines would have rubber in front? Just speculation…
Jak, interesting that I have never read that about the gas lamps; so glad you posted. I always assumed they were pitiful and the later electrics were an improvement, light output-wise.
I have identified a material tested and used by enthusiasts of “Another Motorcar”” and am attempting to obtain some of this material. Will keep you posted.”
