David, how is the full floor mat project coming along? If you are taking names to get an idea how many to make, I will buy one for my 30 Model B Convertible Coupe. Karl

Jim Otto in Nashville , TN is a retired Sylphon engineer who still does Sylphon repair. Perhaps he can help. Give him a call 865-966-9494

Rick needs all this minus the cover, Karl

Rick, This Stat requires a plug in the one inch round hole to keep the heat at the stat. Without this plug the air temp will not open the stat well. You will have to fabricate a plug that fits tight and drill for the rod. I used a 1/2 thick piece of round cork and drilled a hole and used high temp grease at the shaft. But first you need the bellows and shaft. Karl

Richard has the early 29 radiator that uses the air Bellows and not the water shutterstat he needs the Bellows and the rod that connects to the first link that runs across the front of the radiator this is a 29 early feature. Karl

Richard, just to go back to the original question I had, does your arm go through the radiator or is it like the above photos? The early 1929 shutterstat is different and none of the parts look the same. Late 1929 and 1930’s have the one Craig is showing. Karl

Craig, the part will need to be soldered so it wont leak coolant. It has no moving parts, but acts as the back rest so all pressure would be at the nut and should be fine. The same seller has the front plate for $75. item #252697716243. Karl

Richard, the cage is on e-bay 262779159501 for $50, the bellows are on from time to time also. Classic sells the gaskets. Karl

Richard, I am not sure what’s left of your shutterstat, the Thermostat bellows that is mounted in the radiator uses a short rod that threads to the bellows on one end. The other end is just threaded rod. Using double nuts the rod adjusts the travel of the first pivot. I don’t have one out of the car but should be an easy piece to manufacture. Brian Joseph could have a used one, give him a call Classic and Exotics, Troy Michigan. If the Stat has been replaced with some later parts we may need photos to see what you need. The 1930 and later parts look different but could be made to work also. Did you send your bellows out for rebuild? Karl

Richard, first thing we need to know is the linkage going over the top of the radiator or do you have a pass through hole in the top tank? Do you have any arms or links at all? Karl

Looking at a photo of the “Spencer Tracy” 1931 roadster I find the round lamp with 2 chrome strips. I looks like a short wheelbase car. What model is this car? All photos of club sedans, and long wheel base cars show a rectangle lamp. LeBaron and Salon cars show 3 beautiful strips and rectangular lamps. Has anyone ever seen Model 43’s with any lamps? Karl

Ed, Richard’s car was not an old repaint when found, I would think his strips have to be original or very early 1930’s additions. I checked my Pierce 1930 accessory catalog and don’t see them listed for sale in there. Karl

Craig, good work! I see he has two chrome strips on the passenger side in front and behind the round lamp. The drivers side just has the lamp. New question then : Any other cars with the chrome strips like Richard LeRoys’ car? Karl

Thanks David and George and all, I was searching e-bay last night and every factory photo I can find for 1929 has the rectangle lamps if any. Those that have them all seem to be the long wheel base cars. Has anyone seen short wheelbase 1929 cars with step lamps? Karl

Thanks Craig and Ed for your input. Because 1930 Model A’s show a different gasket in the parts book, could all A bodies use the 1929 style rectangle lamp? Because it is not new for 1930,it may explain why it is not shown in the 1930 parts book. I look forward to hearing from other owners of 29-31 open and closed cars. If someone has a 1931 parts book, could you check the 1930 part numbers and see if they are there for 1931. Thanks, Karl

Brooks, I am 1200 miles from Naples Florida. One of my “snowbird”” Mercedes customers gets the Naples newspaper here in PA and called me because I usually have one of my Pierce Arrows in the shop while he is getting his Mercedes serviced and thought I would find it an interesting read. I am happy to share the link so everyone knows the Florida Region is active. I look forward to a full report of the days events from you in the future. Knowing both cars and owners it looks like a “”Show”” to me. Karl”

My early script closed wheel looks like the 1905 wheel peter posted from the Williams book, but mine has the arrow. There is an air gap between the wheel and the script which is difficult to see in the photo I posted. This is what would make all attempts to make a one piece repro look bad. Karl

Terry, I can not tell if your wheel is chrome or nickel, if chrome, any plater can dip the part and remove the chrome. Drill a cap, install and enjoy. I have never seen an open wheel for sale like mine. I showed it to a casting foundry and they told me it was 3 separate parts and without removal of the script from both sides first any castings from my original would not turn out well. I quickly said never mind. If I found a broken one I might un-solder the script and try to make a few. Karl
