in reply to: Hood Orrnament Question #407981

Terry, I found this Motometor at the Chickasha Swap Meet. It has a brass plate with the wheel and arrow. So this would be pre-nickel? There is three different wheels like yours. Two have script Pierce, the other has block letters Pierce. The one you have has the largest wheel of the three. I was told yours was the last, and correct for Series 36. Karl

Richard needs a clock, this e-bay item is a speedo. Karl

Richard, this speedo doesn’t fit your car, it is for a 30 model A or B. Just like the other clock you found on e-bay last year it is about 15% larger and won’t go in the bezel of a 133 model 125. Karl

in reply to: wiring of the 29’s lights #407724

Richard, One click left should give you your bar parking lights, one click right of off gives you low beam, two clicks gives high beam, do you still have the resistor block to mount back on the left front inner frame rail? this is where low and high comes from on 29’s. This junction block coiled resistor also reduces voltage to the 1000 bulb for low beams. Do you have the wiring diagram? 1930’s do not have the resistor. Karl

Richard, they look great. A quick note: the area around the letters should be filled with gloss black paint so only the chrome letters are showing between the raised inner and outer rings. It makes them pop! Karl

Liz, Mary and I will be there, add us to the count, Karl

in reply to: Valves for truck engine #407346

    Paul and all,

Restoring trucks are a labor of love. My goal is to make this truck run after a 60+ year sleep.

Greg L. checked and his old 1919 model 38 valves and they are also 8 1/2 inches long and not 8 3/4 inches, the same as Paul’s valves they are both .406 inch diameter. I was hoping to keep the engine project from becoming a full rebuild if possible. I will not be doing much touring with 5 tons of anything at 15 mph!! It will be a great hpof vehicle if I can get it moving again. I just checked my length again and it did not change 8 3/4″. This truck also uses a 4 1/2 inch bore. Same as 48 hp. cars? I appreciate the other leads from Ed and David for new valves. I will wait and see if someone finds 48 hp valves to see if they could be longer before I venture to get some made. Karl”

in reply to: Future dates for Pierce Meetings and Meets #407151

Rich, thank you for posting for the dates. I was trying to see how my work, Chickasha Swap meet, Amelia Island and future summer trips to the OBX with the grand kids would fit with next year’s PAS Meet and Meeting. Looks like we can make all of these venues. Karl

Mr. Bowman giving us details about his cars with one of the other “P’s” in the foreground. Our member Ken in the background. After answering many questions and reflected on when and why vehicles ended up in the building we were off too soon to visit our next stop, a building full of Franklins.

    See you all soon, Karl

Early trucks from the Bowman Fleet. This company was started by our host with one truck 59 years ago! His sons are taking the company into the future.

The Don Bowman collection included over 75 trucks and cars covering three buildings. Photos of some of his early trucks.

in reply to: Windshield wiper motors #406715

Rick, the original body wiper fits without hitting, flat side down. The post WWII body is larger and has to be mounted upside down. If using the post war wiper, the left and right move from one side to the other because of the hose locations. Post a photo of your wiper motors and we can id them for you. Karl

in reply to: Timing twin ignition #406610

Ron, Back to your original question, You did not tell us if you have a Model B-6 or C-6 Truck. The ignition coils for both are Delco #2171. They are used on other cars, they should be easier to find than the later truck coils that only fit Pierce trucks.

This Pierce engine should use two caps in line on the same Distributor. A picture would confirm that they have never been replaced with something else. These trucks left the factory with Delco dist.# 5202 or 5216. One has lever adjustment for advance, the other auto advance.

I have the factory procedure to set these distributors. If you check the dist. tag for the above Delco numbers I can get you the correct info. If the tag is different, post it and we can try to figure if the retro-fitted something else to your truck. If you have a later Hercules engine, who knows what’s there! 1924 Pierce 6 uses a single cap on a Delco 5265 Distributor. 1925-6 6 cyl uses Delco 5265 Distributor.1931-33 6 cyl uses Delco 4077. So give me more to go on and I should be able to get your points and timing in spec. Karl

in reply to: Hood corners revisited #413357

David, I will check the 1931 parts book and see if the numbers change for those 1931 hoods. (I did not look at 1931 prior to manufacturing them as I only own ’29s and ’30s). These hood corners would work for a lot of vehicles in addition to Pierce that use a larger corner. I checked the A ford parts catalogs before making them and they are 1/2 inch shorter and not suitable for Pierce. Size was determined based on the “rust” marks on my unrestored hoods. We are not talking fine art here, we are trying to just keep production cars moving down the road at an affordable cost. As stated before no one will want to make molded leather corners due to the mold costs. Thanks for your interest, Karl
