Greg,
I believe that I bought my timing chain from Ramsey Products when we rebuilt the engine on my Series 80.
Perhaps, they changed their policies since that time.
Peter
Ron,
Did you try recovering the Optima batteries with a sophisticated charger like a NOCO GENIUS?
I just used my NOCO GENIUS 3500 to recover a DEAD Optima RedTop that had been sitting for 1-year.
I think that they are n amazing product.

Good luck,
Peter
Hello Ben,
I want to order one license plate topper.
I don’t expect that you will have a spare minute for a few weeks, so I am not concerned about how quickly it arrives.
Best of Luck for a successful 2022 PAS Meet.
I am sorry that Joanne and I are not coming this year, but I take solace in the fact that we got a new Miniature Poodle Puppy (Black) 4-weeks ago.
Archie, the Poodle, keeps us busy and happy. He is a HOOT!
I will send a check today for $110.0o, which should cover the cost of the topper, plus S&H.
If you are out of them, then I guess that I missed the boat.
Best wishes for a FUN 2022 Meet,
Peter
Hello Campbell,
Years ago, the engine on my 1925 Series 80 destroyed a piston at a PAS Meet.
I won’t go into detail, but suffice it to say that because of a PAS member “adjusting my carburetor” and I had run through between 8 & 10-gallons of fuel in 25-miles before the engine BLEW!
One of the pistons separated at the bottom of the Second piston ring!!
I was towed to the Meet Hotel and then we pushed it onto my trailer.
OH YEAH, Hart’s, were the people who refurbished the block and planed the cylinder head.
My Pierce-Arrow is garaged in North Eastern Massachusetts, so I made up a shipping crate that was fundamentally a CRIB that held the engine.
I bolted the engine to the Crib that was made from 2″ X 10″ boards, bolted it down, stopped it down and shipped hot to Hart’s and a few weeks later they returned it to my garage.
Greg Long came in to town and assisted me in rebuilding the engine, piece, by piece.
Greg lives in Michigan, but seems t0 travel for engine repairs.
Greg is: Have Wrench, Will Travel!
You can consult with other Series 80 / 81 Gents and see what they say.
I hope that this helps.
Best,
Peter
Bill,
What did you think?
Wide and varied pinstripes, eh?
That’s it for now!
Good hunting!
Best,
Peter
Bill,
I don’t think that there was a “correct” wheel striping pattern.
I believe that the customer either indicated which pattern they wanted on their wheels, or they took what was available.
Before I had the wheels on my Series 80 re-striped, I spent lots of time photographing the striping on many Pierce-Arrow cars.
I did that at at that year’s PAS Meet.
The striping patterns are as different as the automobiles.
Photos to follow.
Peter
Ken,
Congratulations!
Peter
Sorry, sideways and cannot rotate?
Jim,
I believe that you know that I had a similar experience with SMS, however I hung in there and after more than one year, perhaps two. I finally received my upholstery material.
The quality is excellent and my upholstery Gent got going and completed the recovering of my seat cushions.
I am afraid that they are the premier auto fabric producers in the country.
One involvement with them was plenty.
In defense of SMS, but not much, they did create a fabric that was not on their list and they needed to disassemble a swath of my cloth so that they could determine how many different colored threads there were in my original P-A upholstery material, and then had to create a fabric that accurately replicated the original cloth.
I was upset about waiting for so long, but the wait seems to be necessary to get exactly what one wants and needs.
No other fabric reseller that I know offers what SMS produces.
Randy,
You should contact Greg Long about spares.
Greg owns 25-copies of every Series 80 part.
Sorry Greg for ratting you out!
I’ll contact some other Series 80 people on the matter.
Good luck,
Peter
Bill,
I found the same set there for less.
Thanks,
Peter
Bill,
Very nice!
What is it called so that I can find it on eBay?
Peter
Hello Jim,
SMS made some custom interior cloth for me.
It took a looong time, but they eventually produced a nice roll of material that matches the interior cloth of my 1925 Series 80, 7-passenger, DeLuxe sedan.
I probably waited for a year or so, but finally, after some harassment on my part, the material arrived.
I have some idea that the delay was caused by their having an out-of-country, independent mill produce it.
I paid about $100.00 per yard, which I thought was reasonable, considering that it was a full custom weave job.
They have a good number of stock fabrics, but my Chauncey (my Series 80) needed matching fabric, and I used some other material that was “close” for a few years.
When the wait was over, then all I had to do was get my upholstery Gent to use it to redo the seat bottoms and backs.
That is a work in progress, and I anticipate it being done by Summer (Please!).
My Gent does top flight work, but can be a bit too considered when working on Pierce-Arrow pieces.
He reproduced the three rear seating area silk roller shades, which he first did in a polyester material, but it would not roll up properly.
I then bought silk, and it Works Like A Charm.
He also commented on the complexity of the sewing done by the PAMCC in making those shades.
Apparently, the shade edges had multiple seams, some French seams on the edges.
He was impressed, but then again, he does a good deal of work for a Gent who owns and has restored, fancy 1930s Chrysler cars.
His Chrysler cars are beautiful, but they are Not a Pierce-Arrow.
Petter (my upholstery Gent- a Norwegian – that’s why 2-Ts) also fabricated for me two leather front kick panel pockets, With Flaps that are both spectacular and extremely useful.
PHEW!
That’s my story, so if you like their offerings, you should have the material quickly.
Custom is different.
As a note, I am redoing my seats and not the door panels or headliner. Not because they are in wonderful condition, but because at least for the door panels, they are extremely complex and I don’t believe they an be replicated as crafted by the PAMCC.
Okay, that’s enough for now.
I’m going to finish my cigar, sip my Laphroaig scotch and wait for the 18 to 28-inches of SNOW that is supposed to blow in tonight as a blizzard and stay All DAY tomorrow. EESCH!
Be well and be in touch if you wish.
Cheers,
Peter
