There is another Wood body Pierce Arrow. They are not common at all. Your car is attractive which is unusual for that coach builder……..they were very good at making boxes with wheels.

Tony Zappone has some items for the new owner, as he is a volunteer at the Saratoga museum. We have had a similar car in our family for over fifty years. I know the car, and have worked on it in the past. I first saw the car back in 1975. Feel free to contact me about your new purchase. Ed

The 35 and 36 were rolling parts cars. I had a chance to purchase both three years ago, and passed on them, and I placed a value on the 35 at 7k, and the 36 at 9k( At that time…NOT today.). Parts cars and rolling wrecks are available for MUCH less today…..the market on these cars has adjusted………as well as finished cars……the market and times are changing. If you have 50k to spend on a pre war car today….you have twenty five times more choices to make a purchase than ten or fifteen years ago……..when selling a Pierce Arrow today, available Packards, Lincolns, and Cadillacs can be bought by the truck load………thus pushing all prices lower…..its not the cars….its supply and demand. Why by a parts car or project car when nice driving cars can be had at 20k? Take a look at the price of V-12 Lincoln OPEN cars………I paid more for my yard tractor than nice Lincoln drivers are selling for.

They should interchange………hardware and brake system components may not. It’s one of those thing that sounds easy, till you remember that Pierce Arrow never but two consecutive cars the same………….

They are available at Walmart on the shelf next to the unicorn horns. Hard item, Cislak had one years ago, you could try him. Regardless of make, 1930’s light switches at the bottom of a Ross box are in demand items. If at all possible, service yours if you have one.

I knew of the car when Dave Harris took me to see it about three years before he bought it, as it was a mile from his house in a Largo Florida. They were asking 25k then for it in the back yard. I told them it wasn’t worth 2500. They didn’t allow us to take photos. We drove there in his 1912 Cadillac. The same old story…..junkyard chassis built by a 15 year old kid with no money.

Most octane is boosted today with ethanol….and thus much less stable. Additives don’t help before or after…….non E-10 fuel is you best bet if it’s available in your area. The best cure for fuel issues is to drive your car. Long term storage is best done with aviation fuel or a special fuel from companies like VP. We run C-9, and it’s stable for six years. Cost is about 7 dollars a gallon, but a half tank of it is cheaper than going through the entire fuel system.

A stove has sold as high as 5500 dollars. The doors were recast, and they are now out of production. The generic stoves are tracked on eBay, and often sell for 2500 or more. I haven’t seen one sell for almost ten years now. Most of the trailers are missing them.

I recommend anyone intrested in that car hire an expert to look it over for them BEFORE purchasing………and that applies to any Pierce Arrow………not just this car.

in reply to: Free wheeling #424385

1936-1938 Pierce Arrow’s are prone to brake fade, thus overdrive should never be used on unfamiliar roads……ever. I use free wheeling on all my 1931-1935 cars safely and effectively. They are much less prone to fade. That said, the same applies to only use it on familiar roads. I have driven thousands of miles with it and learned my lesson just like Tony on my 1936 V-12.

Kirby, give me a ring during the day so we can catch up on the car.

To my knowledge there is only one complete set known, belonging to a collector from Massachusetts who refuses to share or copy them. If your car is actually in the magazine he will give you the photo and article. I know him, but have never asked him about them.
