The link for Bob’s obituary follows. As George Teebay stated above, Bob generously shared his knowledge of Pierce-Arrows and those many beautiful cars he has restored over the years are a testament to his dedication to the Company and to our Society.
Condolences to his family.

Eric, OK, so it will pull a Bobcat, but will it pull your ’37 1702?
See you & Chris at the GAG next month!
Jim,
Bob Sands previously recommended using Firestones for spares under side mount covers; these were the OEM tires used.
In our 1601, we have one newer (2012) Firestone 700×17 as spare and it fits under the side mount cover; the other spare is presumably an original Firestone which was a spare when we acquired the car.
Stu
Congratulations Paul,
Do you have any recent photos you can post here?
(Past PAS President Frank Merrell, followed by his Estate, owned our ’36 1601 for 71 years from 1939 until 2010.)

All, the auction site link follows:
Hi Eric,
What is the back-story on this car? Something to effect that it was an incomplete partial body only…
And what’s that red thing up front, a Detroit Diesel?
Enquiring minds in PAS will want to hear, as Paul Harvey used to say, “the rest of the story…”
I’m trying to head-off the vigilante tar and feathers brigade now forming for YOU!
Hope you & Chris are ready for Spring,
Stu
Michael,
Search “Firestone tube” in this message board; in May, 2019, I’d posted a catalog link, the applicable tube P/N and ordering information from a Firestone dealer. Min order qty is 1 case of 10 tubes. This should help,
Stu

Look for Mr. Cislak beginning at 00:35:00.
A few years back, I’d heard of someone upgrading Owen Dyneto generator cutouts by replacing the internal components with modern solid state voltage regulator parts.
Has anyone utilized such an upgrade and is it still available?
For the past 8-9 years, we’ve used Mothers Back to Black liquid on our original ’36 Pantasote top insert and running board mats with very satisfactory results. This product claims some degree of UV protection which can be further quantified on their website. Usually, one annual application keeps everything shiny black after buffing out.
The passage including “…She will dart ahead of you when the red turns to green; on the highway she may pass you at 70..,” has a passing resemblance to Jordan’s, “Somewhere West of Laramie there’s a bronco busting Gal who knows what I’m talking about.”
Ken, thanks for sharing.
Congratulations to Roger, David and Liz; our excellent PAS / PAF publications deserve this well-earned National recognition.
Eric,
On our ’36 Eight, there is minimal clearance, ~1/2″ or less, between the fan blade and radiator.
Your Twelve may have a similar tight clearance; a quick phone call to Ed Minnie (in the roster) will confirm this – he has a ’36 Twelve.
Any new photos to post of your work-in-progress?
Stu
Thanks for the info Jim,
Rotella used to be the go-to solution; a Google search provides validation toward your suggestion of Valvoline VR-1 and it’s available in 30W.
Classic Car Motor Oil, available through the IN Region CCCA, is a 15W40 multi-weight option, too. It’s specially made by D-A Lubricants Co. in Indianapolis with a very high zinc level.
Ryan,
Non-detergent 30W is available at NAPA,
Shell Rotella 30W, a detergent oil marketed for diesel engines, is available at Walmart.
Both have anti-wear zinc (ZDDP) levels consistent with pre-1980’s motor oil but now almost totally removed from modern gas engine oil.
Eric,
Call John Cislak; best time to reach him is noon.
Good luck, Stu
Eric, Great! Please post a few photos, too.

One easy trick to tell if a watch crystal is either plastic or glass is to hold it to your cheek. If it’s cold, it’s glass; warm or room temperature, it’s plastic.
