I have not researched as to how these could fit early big cars. But prices range from $650 (eBay) to $1200 more.

Electric power steering for classics and hot rods

It is amazing how we just ask Google? It surely simplifies! I edited my earlier post from “Where can I get one?” To posting an answer!

Of course, we don’t need PS, but maybe our wives could get interested in driving early cars?

    I meant “real” not “earl”.

Thank you, Randy! Reminds me of the “Beverly Hills Hillbillies.”

Jethro Clampett said to his uncle, Jed Clampett, Jethro said, “Uncle Jed, I could manage your money and make you a millionaire!” Jed laconically responded, “That’s what I was worried about, I am now worth $140Million dollars right now!”

    Thanks for the fun response!

    Good Morning!

Thanks, Ed. I have seen some of Woods other cars and they are huge, tall boxes! I think they had some trucks they also made. The back story on our car is that it was made (or rebodied) for a South California trucking magnate.

in reply to: How to get IRS deductions on a car collection? #425441

    Thank you, David,

It seems that you cannot deduct expenses only if you have income from cars.
Weddings, Events, movies, renting a car to someone, and get paid. That and only that income can be expensed, against car-related expenses.

I did look at a “Charitable Remainder Trust.” But these are specific vehicles used in Estate Planning. If you are over the IRS guidelines that means when you die, your estate can then donate a car to a charitable institution and relieve some of the bite.

If I have a business, that is renting or selling or getting paid for mechanical work then I can expense against that income. Let’s us say that I took in $7,000 in weddings, etc. I can only deduct expenses, related to the business, in toto $7,000 expense.

Your best tax break is residential income.

However, you must make a profit within three years, or you can be in the “Hobby Category,” and considered NOT a business.

I am exploring the idea of a Foundation. Might help, but a lot of money!

in reply to: Better Brake lining? #410369

Cannot find “Brake linings Stewart Warner Power Brakes”” in this board with search. I also tried “”Brake linings Stewart Warner”” (without quotes)

Could you add a link in the “”Optional URL”””

in reply to: Better Brake lining? #413730

I will search “Brake linings Stewart Warner Power Brakes”.

I have notes from George Teebay about setting clearances between the shoes for the handbrake and the foot brake. They now seem to be adjusted as per.

However, with maximum foot pressure and full handbrake, the car will not lock up the wheels. At a standstill, the handbrake will definitely stop the car. I accidently left it engaged when I started to drive. It holds the car, even on a steep grade, about 20%.

I think the problem is in the lining.

in reply to: Exhaust manifold over heating? #413729

Jim, thank you for the answer. I had not checked the Pierce exhaust manifold and noticed the “Heavy-Lean” adjustment on the steering column. I had it set closer to the “Lean” setting and not changing it for starting and running.

I should not be concerned about overheating.

I think, and am asking, where should the “Heavy-Lean” be set when starting? When when running?

in reply to: Two Optima Batteries to start my 1916 48B #410357

    Great info. Thanks!

    1. Disconnect my jumpers and see the individual voltages

    2. George, I may have overkill. I replaced weak 6v lead acid battery. Thought having more amperage would do better. Perhaps I should remove one.

    3. James, the 1.1 Amp NOCO is holding the two batteries at a good charge.

    4. Peter, as you, I did have one 6v Optima that completely died and would not charge. I hooked a fresh battery to the dead battery and hooked my NOCO charger to the fresh battery and it brought the dead battery up to take a charge.

These replies are giving me food for thought, thanks again!

in reply to: LED Headlight Bulbs #409326

Maybe answered my polarity question. Apparently negative or positive ground for bulbs. Still wonder what bulb will fit my 1914 PA.

I don’t care about high end judging for our 1916 PA, except for my 1911 Napier Garden Car, I am keeping the individual carbide lights. Hope you enjoy my levity this morning.

in reply to: LED Headlight Bulbs #409325

Back to the original discussion. I have a 1916 PA and would like to know if any of these would fit on my headlights or tail light? See URL Below.

Would a negative ground LED Bulb work in a positive ground car?

If you want tangential issues, how do I start my carbide headlights, with separate tanks on the headlights on my 1911 Napier Garden Car with wicker seats and landau top with powder blue upholstery?

Please do not hijack or just I AM kidding, even though I just bought the car at Amelia.

in reply to: park plugs and gaps on 48B? #413479

Al, my 48B has a setting for M MB and B. I had been running it on “M” setting and it was having problems. I went to MB (Mag and Bat) and it is running perfectly. I suspect that the mag has a problem. I know the mag has a higher spark than bat. I think the gap is different between these plugs and may also be different plugs. Apparently, the mag gap may be more critical and have been suggested that I get Autolite with platinum, being less to burn up the plugs.

It figures that a Pierce needs platinum!

Also, there are different heat ranges for the plugs as needed.

If I come up with something, will report back. Maybe George or David may chime in.

BTW The copy, delete and repost is a great idea!

in reply to: park plugs and gaps on 48B? #407825

Alan, these are used when the car is not being driven. They are quite rare since most Pierce Arrow cars start and run well.

However on this message board, you cannot edit your own posts.

At the sake of hijacking my own thread, as I think I have good advice to fix the transmission in the Thomas, so one more about the Pierce from a request from Bernie Weis.
